The audio version of Magazine 3 is now available on my YouTube channel. Check it out using the link below:
Magazine 3: ‘A Distant World’ A Comic Concept’ Audio Version
I’m sorry this took a while to be completed. I’m happy with how it turned out, but the audio does experience peaking when I say my Ts and Ps. If you have any feedback or suggestions please put it in the video comments.

Further Notes:
Reflecting on the comic further, particularly as I wrote the script for the audio book, I have some more comments to add. This post will act as a chance to do that.
As I read through the audio book script, I realized that the masked figure’s description made their connection to Sailor V from Naoko Takeuchi’s manga visually more obvious than in the original magazine.
‘The clouds parted revealing the figure’s form. They had long hair and wore a mask over their eyes.’
I wanted to acknowledge this more explicit connection here as it feels less superficial than I made it out to be in the original introduction.
If you’ve already listened to the audio, you may notice that the dialogue has changed slightly. I had issues with the quality of the dialogue in the original comics and for the sake of the listening experience I wanted to revise it. The introduction however, is unaltered. I’m happy with the updated dialogue because it provides more context and gives more personality to the characters.
Below is a table showing some examples of how the dialogue has changed:
| Comic Concept | Audio Book |
| ‘One day it will be your turn to look over this world. All of it my daughter.’ | ‘Look at it my daughter. One day it will be your turn to look over this planet. All of this will be yours.’ |
| ‘But surely we must have to visit it at some point?‘ | ‘But surely, I will need to visit the planet too father. You claim we look after this planet; but how can I do that if I don’t know what is going on down there?‘ |
The art still bugs me and while my drawing skills have improved since 2023, there’s still plenty of room for improvement. For example, my anatomy and perspective skills still need a lot of work.
The flow of the comic from panel to panel feels okay, but the page layouts could be more ambitious. Granted I should understand the basics of comic story telling before I start getting experimental.
Another thing that popped into my head was that a manga I read before making Magazine 3 was the 2020 translation of ‘Super Mario Manga Mania‘ (2017). This collects the best chapters from ‘Super Mario-kun,’ a manga written and drawn by Yukio Sawada. It has been serialized in CoroCoro Comic since 1990 and has been running for 30 years. A sequel (Super Mario-kun Special Selection) was released in Japan in 2023, but has not yet had a English release.
Thank you for reading.
